The Historian and the Archaeologist
A Historian is like a detective. Historian study sources to try and find out what happened in the past. A Primary Source is a first-hand account - this means it is from the time being studied. Examples of Primary sources are a diary, photograph, newspaper, video footage etc. A Secondary Source is a second-hand account. This means it is something from after the time being studied.
Archaeologists study fossils and artifacts. Fossils are the remains of living things (plants, animals, people). Artifacts are the remains of things that were made e.g. arrowheads, swords, building remains etc). Click on the video link below to see what kind of work archaeologists do.

Dating an artifact:
One of the ways archaeologists find out how old an object is, is by using dendrochronology (tree-ring dating). Click here to find out how dendrochronology actually works! |
